Vick Looking To Add Mexican Flavor To Seattle Sports Scene

mikevickSo there’s this rumor floating around that Michael Vick could be on his way to Seattle. The perpetrators of the story come from Yahoo Sports, where the good folks over there have a knack for stirring up controversy when other media outlets won’t. Here’s a link to the article.

You had to see this coming, of course. Seattle is a liberal city, and the Hawks happen to employ Vick’s former head coach and GM. We talked briefly about this in a post from November, which you can find here.

My take on the matter is simple. I’m all for the Hawks signing Vick purely as a football-related move.

Put your thoughts on his off-the-field behavior aside and focus solely on the athlete. Vick is a tremendously gifted athletic specimen, and to bring him on board with no strings attached would be a wise move for any ball club. If things don’t work out, the team can simply cut him, no harm, no foul. That’s the great thing about the NFL and their non-guaranteed contracts.

I do have one request if we are to sign Vick, however. I would like the NFL to allow Seahawks jersey sales of Vick’s known alias, Ron Mexico.

Furthermore, I want the name plate on the back to read “R. MEXICO” and not just “MEXICO.”

That way, unsuspecting people will come up to Hawk fans on the street and go, “Hey, is there really more than one guy named ‘Mexico’ on the Seahawks?”

To which you and I can respond, “Yes, there is. Google it.”

Which of course will lead the unsuspecting individual to go home, Google “R. Mexico + Seahawks” and discover nothing. Not only will they not find two Mexicos, they’ll be hard-pressed to find one.

Yes, this is the way I think.
