After Sunday’s comeback-then-comeback-again victory, it’s time to make the 1995 comparisons.
The M’s 15-inning win over Oakland was absolutely epic. No other word to describe it.
From a 4-2 ninth-inning deficit, to a 4-4 extra innings tie, to a 7-4 extra innings deficit, to a 7-7 extra innings tie, and finally an 8-7 extra innings win, the Mariners battled and battled some more, and ultimately fought until they won the war.
Only fitting that Jose Lopez, the hero of just two nights ago, would deliver the game-winning hit in the bottom of the 15th inning. This coming after a 13th inning in which the team rallied to score three runs, matching the three-spot put on the board by Oakland in the top half of that frame. That coming after a Kenji Johjima home run in the bottom of the ninth inning, which tied the score at four and sent the ballgame to extras.
