NCAA Tournament Thread

ncaatourneylogoWe’ll be keeping up with the Tournament all day long right here.  Feel free to join in the conversation.

-Bracket troubles?  Memphis up three, 34-31 over 15-seed Cal-State Northridge at the half; A&M up 12, 42-30 over BYU at the half; LSU up four, 35-31, over Butler early in the second half.

-Interesting note about the Memphis game: ex-UW commit Roburt Sallie has half of the Tigers’ points.  Sallie has knocked down five three-pointers and has tallied 17 total points thus far.  Sallie was originally a member of the ’04 recruiting class (along with the likes of Joel Smith), then went to prep school and was slated to appear on Montlake with the ’05 class (along with Jon Brockman, et al), then completely failed to meet academic expectations and began a journey around the nation.  He later committed to Nebraska, but failed to meet academic standards there and was banned for life from the Big 12 Conference based on a technicality.  Then he headed off to the City College of San Francisco, where he played until this past year.  Now he’s a Memphis Tiger and single-handedly keeping them in their game with CS Northridge.

-UConn head coach Jim Calhoun has been hospitalized and will not coach the Huskies in their first-round matchup against Chattanooga.  He could possibly be out longer.  More to come as it is known.

-BYU now down 15 to Texas A&M.  I have BYU winning.  I also have Utah State winning.  If they both lose, I will completely lose faith in the Mormon religion.  I’m not Mormon, but this would completely seal my distrust in Joseph Smith and his loyal followers.

-Did anyone else witness the Cal-State Northridge player break that Memphis defender’s ankles?  Wow, he crossed him over so hard that the Memphis dude literally fell on his ass.  That’s And1 style right there.

-CSNR just tied the game at 40 with about 15:00 minutes remaining.  Roburt Sallie then answers with a trey, giving Memphis a 43-40 lead.  Sallie now has 20.  Take him away, and Memphis is out of this game.  As it is, this is going to be a hard-fought win for whoever pulls it out.

-CSNR just took a lead, 44-41.  They’re shooting the lights out from beyond the arc right now.  Wow.  Possible bracket buster here.

-Roburt Sallie is unconscious.  Another trey, 26 points for him.  Tied at 55 right now.  11:18 to go.

-Memphis has taken control.  Up 10 with under a minute to play.

-My bracket is about to get jacked up.  LSU about to knock off Butler, A&M about to eliminate BYU.  Damn you, BYU.  Two years in a row.

-Final: LSU wins 75-71, Butler eliminated.

-Final: Memphis 81-70, over Cal-State Northridge.  Roburt Sallie finishes with 35 points.

-Final: Texas A&M 79-66, over BYU.

-Purdue in front of Northern Iowa early, 22-13 with 6:30 to play in the first half.  The winner takes on the Washington-MSU winner Saturday.

-Cal locked up tight with Maryland, 24-23 Terps with 6:00 remaining in half #1.

-Final: Purdue 61, Northern Iowa 56.  Purdue will player the Washington-MSU winner.

-UNC and UConn dominating their respective 16-seed opponents.  Pencil them into the next round.

-Cal down 59-51 to Maryland.

-Bad news Husky fans: Dave Libbey is one of three refs on the call for our game today.  Just got word from a friend at the Rose Garden.  Ugh.

-Cal/Maryland getting out of hand.  Terps up 74-59 with 4:37 left to play, and Bears’ Pat Christopher just fouled out.  Momentum completely in Maryland’s favor.

-Huskies about to tipoff.  CBS just switched over to regional coverage of the Washington-MSU game.  Go Dawgs!
