M’s Sit 2.5 Games Back On Fourth of July

Mark Lowe and Rob Johnson celebrate the Mariners' 7-6, 11-inning victory over Boston on Friday.

Who would have thought the M’s would still be this relevant on Independence Day?

Sure, we all hoped it would happen, but no one could have projected this. Today is July 4th, and the Mariners are three games over .5o0 and just 2.5 games back of first place in the American League West. In a word, unbelievable.

On a day that is supposed to be entirely devoted to fireworks, barbecues, watermelon, adult beverage consumption, and most of all this great nation of ours, Seattle sports fans will actually be paying close attention to what the M’s do in Boston later today.

Coming off arguably the biggest win of the season last night, the M’s will look to take back-to-back games from the Red Sox and ensure a winning record on their toughest road trip of the year. Currently, the team is 4-3 with two games remaining on a trek that took them to Los Angeles to face the Dodgers, New York to meet the Yankees, and Boston to face the Sox. The team returns home on Monday.

I’ll keep it short and simple. I hope everyone has a safe and happy Fourth of July, and if you can break away from the nice weather and great food for just a few minutes, check out our baseball team do a little work in New England. Let’s go Mariners!
