I think it’s safe to say we can blame this on swine flu. (Joking.)
Don’t freak out about the loss of our swim teams, though. It’s not like you were going to the meets or anything, and if you were, it was almost surely on someone else’s dime (it is free for students, after all).
It sucks that the swim teams have to go, but let’s face facts: swimming wasn’t generating a ton of revenue (if any) for the school, and it wasn’t exactly a feasible keeper option during cutback time.
I’d much rather lose the swimming program, than witness fifty hard-working individuals get laid off to make up for the $1.2 million this saved the university.
We’ll live. Go Dawgs.
Eastside Catholic High School (Sammamish, WA) has hired former Washington State University quarterback Jason Gesser as its newest head football coach, which just goes to show that if you spend four years in college, really apply yourself, campaign for the Heisman Trophy, trek around the backwoods of pro football, and dream big, that you can achieve great things in life.
Gesser, who also doubles as a college football analyst for Fox Sports Northwest, replaces longtime Crusaders’ head coach Bill Marsh, who stepped down after 10 seasons at Eastside.
The former Arena League player, who spent last season as the offensive coordinator at Franklin Pierce High School in Tacoma, has stated that he will remain in employment with FSN while also coaching at Eastside Catholic. No word on whether FSN has decided to keep Gesser around.
