Can’t say I’ve heard of this happening before. University of Washington men’s basketball coach Lorenzo Romar hosted a private party at the University Village Ram on Monday, specifically for members of the Dawg Pack student section.

Romar had personally invited every Dawg Pack ticket holder either by email or phone, and spent the minutes before the party officially kicked off by walking around the room and speaking to each individual in attendance.

The party lasted from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM and the entire restaurant was closed to the public during that time.

Romar also fielded questions from students, and passed out mini basketballs signed by the team.

In my experience, Coach Romar has gone out of his way every year to personally thank the Dawg Pack in some way, whether it’s inviting them onto the court after the home finale, providing tours of Hec Ed Pavilion, or sending out emails and thank-you notes to all the student ticketholders.

He’s made no secret of his appreciation for the student section, even going so far as to describe in detail on more than one occasion how tough it was to draw students at his other coaching stops (Pepperdine and St. Louis). You have to appreciate a coach who plays it so classy with the fans at all times.
