Fear the Manatee.

Fear the Manatee.

A manatee is a giant aquatic mammal often referred to as the “sea cow.” I learned this from an episode of Family Guy.

Manatee is also a county in Florida — named after the mammal, presumably — that is home to Manatee Community College.

Teens who killed Tuba Man would only face maximum 5-year sentence

April 4, 2009 4 comments

tubamanTwo of the three Seattle teenagers who have pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges in the death of Ed “Tuba Man” McMichael would only face 72 months in juvenile detention if served with a maximum sentencing.  The third teenager would only face up to 36 months.

The three teens brutally beat and robbed McMichael in the early morning hours of Oct. 25, 2008.  McMichael, who received hospital treatment for his wounds, was found dead in his home eight days later on Nov. 3.  His death came as a result of trauma from his injuries.

The teens, who were all 15-years-old when the crime was committed, could not have been tried as adults, according to King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg.

The Tuba Man was a Seattle sports icon who frequently serenaded local fans with his music before and after games.  He became synonymous with the Mariners, Seahawks, Sonics, and Thunderbirds and has been sorely missed since his premature passing.  McMichael was 53.
