Updated: Attention whore Thomas now claims he was just “screwing around”

Updated: Isaiah Thomas now claims he was just “screwing around” on Facebook when rumors began to circulate that he would declare for the 2009 NBA Draft.

Three things: 1) I think I speak for all Husky fans when I say I’m glad he was just joking, 2) If he wanted attention so badly why couldn’t he just take one of those in-the-mirror cellphone snapshots of his abs and post it to his profile and, 3) Facebook is a powerful tool.

That is all.  Enjoy your day.

According to a “status update” on his personal Facebook profile, University of Washington freshman guard Isaiah Thomas will declare for the 2009 NBA Draft.

Just before 10:00 AM this morning, the Pac-10 Freshman of the Year posted his status to read, “Isaiah Thomas Is Entering the 2009 NBA Draft.”

While nothing can yet be confirmed, Thomas’ decision to declare for the ’09 Draft would be, let’s face it, a bad one.  He is not projected as a first-round pick, and would be lucky to be selected at all.  A first-round selection guarantees a contract for the drafted player, while a second-round selection comes with no guarantees.

ichirolaughHold the wasabi!  Ichiro is out?

What started out as a rumor that Seattle Mariners’ right fielder Ichiro Suzuki might miss the rest of Spring Training, took a wrong turn Thursday.  As it turns out, Ichiro will be making a full-blown trip to the DL with Opening Day just a weekend away.

The M’s leadoff man extraordinaire, Ichiro will be sidelined with a bleeding ulcer until further notice.  His trip to the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 31, means he cannot be activated until April 15, the team’s second home game of the year.

Who’s to blame for sports blowouts?

Kentucky State Baseball

Kentucky State Baseball

On Wednesday, April 1, the Eastern Kentucky University baseball team took on Kentucky State and the result was anything but pretty.

After a 22-run first inning, EKU went on to a 49-1 blowout victory that was mercifully halted after five innings.

While neither team held hard feelings after the loss (KSU was charged with nine errors, and should have been charged with more, according to their coach), the absurdity of the final score raises the question of who, exactly, is to blame for games that get ridiculously out of hand.

Sounders’ Montero under investigation for sexual assault

April 3, 2009 2 comments

monteroSeattle Sounders FC forward Fredy Montero (or “Mitsubishi,” as I like to call him) is in trouble.  The best player on the hottest team in town has been accused of stalking and sexually assaulting a Sammamish woman within the past week.  That’s not good.

The 21-year-old middle-of-the-road SUV has been a hit for the Sounders FC so far this year.  He’s already recorded three goals in the team’s first two games, and was just named the MLS Player of the Month (or Playa of the Month, depending on your perspective).
