Peter Vagenas burdened with the most unfortunate of names

I said I was going to boycott the Sounders until Vini Oliveira returned, but I had to issue a reprieve for this.  While perusing the sports blogs on SeattleTimes.com, I noticed that the Sounders FC blog made a reference to one “Peter Vagenas.”   This must be some kind of joke, I thought to myself, because “Peter Vagenas” is just a terribly unfortunate name.  But upon further review, I came to discover that Peter Vagenas did in fact exist, and played midfield for our local soccer team no less.

Whoa, Courtney Paris…where are you getting your money?

Courtney Paris, forward (or “post,” as they like to call it in the ladies’ game) for the University of Oklahoma Women’s Basketball team, has stated that she’ll pay back her entire scholarship for the season if her Sooners fail to win this year’s National Championship.  The scholarship is valued at around $64,000, which makes you wonder whether Paris has a Swiss bank account, deals the world’s best crack, or possibly dabbles in infidelities of the evening.

Dawgs earn individual awards

uwlogo1The Pac-10 Men’s Basketball awards were announced today, and the Huskies came away big winners.  Forward Jon Brockman and guard Justin Dentmon were named to the All-Pac-10 First Team, while Dentmon also took home the Most Improved Player Award; guard Isaiah Thomas was named Freshman of the Year, and was also named to the All-Pac-1o Second Team; and head coach Lorenzo Romar garnered Pac-10 Coach of the Year honors.
