It’s hard to rip on Seattle U., mostly because they have “Seattle” in their name. It’s like beating up on your little brother, then clowning on him for losing. You just can’t do that, it’s cold-blooded. So we’ll overlook the fact that the Huskies plastered their crosstown opposition and look ahead to our coming matchup with the Washington State Cougars on Saturday.
In doing so, we’d like to kick off basketball Apple Cup week with some friendly jabs at our intrastate rival. We’ve compiled a short list of five things we’ve taken note of with regards to our opponent. Feel free to participate by posting your own barbs in the comments section underneath the post.

*UPDATED at 2:10 PM, Tuesday, March 3: In what is easily the saddest news we’ve ever had to report on this website, the Coast Guard has just announced that they will call off the search for Marquis Cooper and two other men missing in a boating accident off the Florida coastline. At this point, we can only hope for the best, but must realistically fear the worst.
*UPDATED at 12:55 PM: A report from a Tampa news station has rumored that Marquis Cooper may have been found alive. Authorities were not confirming that at this time, and the Tampa station has since retracted their statement regarding Cooper.
Nick Schuyler, the only member of the four-man fishing trip found so far, has been admitted to a Tampa hospital and is currently listed in serious condition.
More news as it becomes available.

T.J. Houshmandzadeh has signed with the Seahawks and we should all be legitimately excited. Here we have one of the top receivers in the NFL, in the midst of his prime, coming to Seattle. You could argue that the Seahawks haven’t had an elite wideout since the Joey Galloway days (though Darrell Jackson would likely dispute that), so the presence of Housh should be glorified for all it truly is.
In order to get things started, we’re tallying off four of the best things we can think of regarding the newest member of the Hawks, outside of pure statistics. It’s a fantastic compilation, truly exhilarating, so enjoy!

Brockman named Pac-1o Player of the Week. University of Washington senior forward Jon Brockman has been named the Pac-10 Player of the Week after posting double-doubles in wins over Arizona and Arizona State.
The Huskies’ captain totaled 40 points and 22 rebounds in those two games, notching the 56th and 57th double-doubles of his college career. The 57 double-doubles are the most among all active collegiate players.
Romar named as National Coach of the Year finalist. Adding to the good news on Montlake, Washington head coach Lorenzo Romar has been named as one of ten finalists for the 2009 Jim Phelan National Coach of the Year Award. No other Pac-10 coach made the list.
The other finalists are as follows: Jim Calhoun, Connecticut; John Calipari, Memphis; Jamie Dixon, Pittsburgh; Darrin Horn, South Carolina; Trent Johnson, LSU; Bill Self, Kansas; Brad Stevens, Butler; Bruce Weber, Illinois; and Roy Williams, North Carolina.
